Growing up...

I never thought that I would be so stinking EXCITED about getting a new fridge. Ordinarily I would think a person who has to blog about their new fridge is a little off, but I can't help it! SO EXCITED. In my defense, Sandro is just as excited as I am so maybe it's not just me but a combination of growing up and relief.

The relief is due to the fact that we have been living with a smaller than average fridge since we moved here last February. (See photo on the left). We were lucky to have it as our current rental home didn't come with a fridge that we could keep and it was a reasonable size for 2 people.. however the freezer took skill and tetris-honed precision to fit more than 2 items in it and we needed more room!

Since it looks like we will be having family over for Thanksgiving (and because we wanted one...) we went and bought our very own.

And it is a monster in comparison!! I forgot how big a standard fridge is!!

Isn't it great?! We immediately went grocery shopping and bought everything we thought we may need... and the fridge is still half empty!

In other news, Boo got a haircut and I'm thinking she is a little upset about the whole experience...

AND Sophie has decided that she likes to dig. A lot.

Back again...

Well I thought I should give this blogging thing another try. Seems strange blogging about just the two of us since we are both on facebook and are in regular contact with our friends and family, etc ...but if no one reads this, there's no harm done anyway, right?

can't keep up

I know I have not kept my word at updating our blog. Sorry! A lot has happened since my last update so I will try to catch anyone who reads this up:

• I started work at Kmart, it's been a good experience and I am getting more and more confident. 
• Sandro and I have started to entertain the idea of buying a house. It's still in the "it's possible" stage but all the same I hope that when we move out of our current rental that we move into our very own home! 
• We spent friday night at the upper South Carolina state fair. It was small, but I had a good time. I probably spent 5 bucks on animal food for the petting zoo. There is just a thrill to touching and feeding llamas, camels, donkeys, emus, elephants, ponies, potbelly pigs. Sandro wasn't nearly as interested as I was haha..
  
• We also went to a demolition derby at the fair. I have never been to one, but I really really enjoyed it! The whole crowd was oohing and aaahing at particularly bad crashes. It makes your average fender bender look like nothing!!
• Last Tuesday we had to put Cinnamon down. She was a good cat and a good friend.. I had her since I was 9 years old. It was a very hard thing to do but it was time.  I've included some photos of her below.

Rest in peace Cinnamon. We love and miss you!

So many things...

Admittedly I've neglected this blog pretty badly so far. I haven't even told many people about it because I'm not very good at updating it- but I will do my best to update at least once a week from now on!

There is a lot to update on! On July 4th, Sandro and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary by driving up to Asheville, NC (which is an amazingly fun city). We stayed in a swanky hotel and then rubbed elbows with the rich at a BBQ on the Biltmore estate. They served huge angus burgers, oysters, shrimp, roasted chicken, free drinks and great desserts! We listened to live music, then sprawled out on the lawns on picnic blankets and watched their fireworks display! It was amazing and I couldn't have asked for anything better! Here are the photos:

updates

Well well well. I have been meaning to come on here and have a big meaningful update about all the exciting things going on in my life BUT I just haven't had the inspiration. So you will have to do with bulletin updates :)

-On thursday we found that our tv, wii, playstation, and two hard drives were not working... we had a bad lightening storm the night before and we just assumed that they were fried. HOWEVER Sandro had the genius idea to unplug the previously mentioned electronics from the surge protector and see if they work alone..... WHICH THEY DID!!! The surge protector we had been swearing out (because we thought it failed) worked!! It fried the surge protector and nothing else. Praise be!

-Sandro and I just spent the weekend with my dad. It was pretty low-key but really relaxing and good! We went to see that new Star Trek movie which they were both excited to see. I have never gotten into the whole Star trek/wars world but I have to say it was a good movie! It was entertaining! We got to see uncle Charlie and Grandma so that was great! The only downer was that we had to get two new tires for the mazda unexpectedly... oh well could be worse....

- Work is good. not much going on there...

-Sandro and I are taking a vacation later this month to go to Iowa/Illinois to see the Jankovic side of the family and also to catch up with some of our buddies.. I'm really excited! It will be nice to see Zrinka and Miro and I'm also I'm excited to see the Jen's and meet their boyfriends. It should be a great weekend!

Talk about Black Tuesday

Work today was surrounded by panic and worry. I think every cloud in the upstate was hovering over the hospital I work in. There have been anouncements about "reductions in work force" for weeks but apparently today was the day when the managers of several departments offically laid people off. All told we lost 7 people from our department and two of our pharmacists (who literally just had babies) volunteered to cut their hours to 32 a week to save another job from being cut. It was so heart breaking.... :( Thankfully I was downstairs in our employee pharmacy when everything went down.

Also poor Sandro is just about in a coma he's so sick. His fever has *finally* broken and I'm trying to talk him out of working tomorrow. We'll see how that goes.

On a lighter note, the parentals are headed this way. I still have some cleaning to do....

yea....ok, crazy.

Have you ever read the Bible passage that says "If your right hand offends you, cut it off" well.. during this week, a utility worker called 911 because while he was working on a house and noticed a bloody man stepped out of his home and chucked his hand accross the street. That hand did something bad and it had to go! He cut it off with a kitchen knife and then refused to have it reattached. Crazy!!

It was an interesting week at work.

FINALLY!

Well anyone who knows me knows that I have always wanted a corvette. Well, as of 3-14-09 I am the proud owner of a '76 vette :) I have not decided on a name of it but am taking suggestions!

I am done with my 7 week class for work!! woot woot! In other news, I have monday off, and so does Sandro and I am PUMPED!

Chillin in Charleston

So I pull into the driveway friday after work. Sandro says lets go. Gets me in the car, drives for TWO HOURS without releasing a peep of where we were going despite guilt trips, demands, and flat out begging. Finally I see a sign for Charleston and say "is THAT it?!" He looked as relieved to say that it was as I was to hear it.

I had no idea what a happening place Charleston was! Our hotel was in the historic district which is full of nice restaurants, schmancy bars, and cool hotels. The hotel was at least a hundred years old, full of antique furniture.. just really cool stuff. We walked around that night, even went to the beach at midnight and tiptoed in the sand. IT was nice... there wasn't a soul around.. just us and the waves... and the foam :)

Saturday we slept in til noon, got some coffee and explored downtown! There is so much history and charm in charleston! I immediately wanted to move. We walked around and shopped the little shops, walked the busy street with all the big name stores, and checked out the pier, got pushed and shoved around in the marketplace, and just enjoyed ourselves. Did you know that some stores have live models? Sandro pointed out a store window and said that they were real models. Of course I didn't believe him, so I stared and scrutinized until one of them cracked and started laughing at me lol. aha! Gotcha!

One of the coolest things we did was a horse carriage! We originally signed up for an hourly horse drawn carriage tour... but I got one look at the two donkeys pulling a loaded cart of at least 16 men, women, and children and seriously wanted to upgrade to private tour. It was worth it! We had a big black horse named Loretta aka "slow-retta" and saw all the churches, the plantation homes, the 4 million dollar charleston row homes, and the market places. It was WONDERFUL!

Later on saturday we went on a walking graveyard tour which was creepy because we were walking around in the dark in a graveyard. The stories really weren't that creepy. Sandro did just about walk into a tree branch which scared the crap out of him and made him clutch his umbrella like he was about to lay out a beat down....Which was priceless and made me laugh my loudest laugh. Yep... we were the obnoxious yet "fun" ones of the tour!

Gatlinburg, Tn

We just got back from an AMAZING trip to Gatlinburg, Tn. We rented a very nice cabin up in the mountains (which had some unfortunate neighbors, both human and nonhuman), and drove into town for some good ol touristish fun. We went to the world's largest aquarium, went to a Ripley's believe it or not museum, got a mold of our holding hands (see picture), mined for gems, mini golfed, did some good shopping, and sampled various treats and foot-long corndogs along the way! I am too tired to recount the whole thing but here are some photos!

So we went to a rodeo in town today.. I had fun but it was a little too redneck for Sandro :) Something about the opening prayer including the word "Athletecism" hahaha! OH and they had a flaming USA in the dirt as they sang the star spangled banner, hahahaha

But like I said, I had a good time. We saw a few boys get thrown around, saw a few MASSIVE pissed off bulls.. much better than staying at home :)

I took some photos with my blackberry... they aren't very good quality but in some you can see the bull bucking and the cowboy sprawled out lol. enjoy!

25 is the new 30

Man I feel old. I went out for some serious clothes shopping last night for the first time in... quite a while... since I started rotations? lol yea I know. I hadn't really been upset about my birthday next month, but after last night I'm feeling old.

I still kind of shop in the Juniors sections because..well.. the clothes are cuter, fit a little better, and are cheap! But man.. it made me realize how old I am lol. I tried on this scoop neck hoodie that would have been very cute on a high school student.. but once I got it on I thought..what is the purpose of a scoop neck hoodie?! Hoodies are for concealment and warmth! It just doesn't make sense to have the neckline on a hoodie be so low that you have to wear a shirt under it. Sigh. I also tried on a top with a little mini vest because apparently that's in now. I just laughed at myself in the mirror haha....

Oh well I suppose I will need to start shopping in the big girl section :) 25. man...this sucks. :)

In other news my thumb is still throbbing, however the bleeding has stopped. I showed it to Katie and Dad on oovoo and got a satisfying "EEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOWWW!" reaction. Somehow having people acknowledge my pain makes me feel tough haha. Thankfully I have some vicodin and percocet laying around the house from previous surgeries/dental encounters so- I'm good.

Today we are taking Sophie to class number two.. should be interesting!

Rough

I'm having a bad week. Monday morning I get to work, and realized that I've lost my nametag somewhere. So I think no big deal, I'll just go get another one... OOOOHH NOOO. I have to go around and have a paper signed by all my bosses so that they know I'm stupid and that I've lost my nametag, I have to pay for a new one, in addition to the fact that I have to make a written report to security to get access into the pharmacy. Fabulous. The rest of the day was busy and cranky.

Tuesday- I am in the car, on the way to work when it hits me. I have left my BRAND NEW name tag at home. I turn around and tear the house upside down looking for the dang thing. Can't find it.. and I'm about to have a massive freak out.. so I wake poor Sandro up.. who somehow immediately finds it. Thank God.. on my way to work.

TODAY things were normal.. got to work WITH my nametag. All is well right? Well.. as I shut (well...slam) the car door I somehow manage to shut it on my thumb. I literally broke my thumb and cut my fingernail all the way from one side to the other. It is only attached to the skin below it. fabulous! I have gone through an insane amount of bandaids and motrin and have a massive blood blister. Maybe I'll post some pictures later.

I hope and pray that the worse is over :(

puppy class

So yesterday Sophie and I made the hour long drive into Greenville to start puppy classes! I've been trying to get her more comfortable getting into cars and going for rides- so that wasn't a problem. Getting out of the car in the Petsmart parking lot was a major battle! lol.. The poor thing, there were other people and other dogs, and cars going by and backing up! At the very least she was terrified! I literally had to carry her in.

Once we got in and found where we were supposed to be, I let her down and the poor thing tried to hide under a shelving unit. She was so scared and shaking like a leaf! All the other puppies were yipping and yawing and smelling and licking each other, but poor Sophie was absolutely overwhelmed lol. I had to carry her into the training room.

From that point on it got a lot better- she became comfortable in the training room. This is the first of 8 classes so this time we mainly listened to the trainer talk. The other puppies in the class were SOOOO CUTE !!!! there was a rotweiler puppy, a german shepard puppy, three malteses and a daushound (however that is spelled). I was really suprized that Sophie was by far the biggest (and not the oldest) dog there!

The class was ok, I learned that if Sophie doesn't want to follow me on the leash, I should just drag her slowly and not say anything like "oh come on sophie" in a whiney voice because then she feels like I'm scared too by my tone. We also were given clickers to help her learn when she's doing a good job... so overall a good thing.

After the class I decided to literally drag Sophie all over the store in an attempt to make her trust me. She had all her legs ramrod stiff, her toes all splayed out trying to resist in anyway possible. BUT after a few aisles she started to walk with her back legs and eventually her front legs and it seemed like it was working! yay!

Now that I've updated you on Sophie, I need to get to my homework- I'm taking an anticoagulation course for work and I have a monday deadline for homework. booooooooo.
